Our Story
In the voice of owner Sheika L. Taylor:
Ok so the name Verandeno comes from the merge of my favorite word (Perseverance) + my late brother's name (Cedeno).
It took me a very long time to truly mourn my brother's death. He was 13 years old and I was a year younger at that time. He passed away in 1989. Over the years, I submerged the emotion by hiding it to appear strong for my mother who also was trying to be strong for all of us (her kids). I didn't realize how much I hid the hurt until later in life. I remember feeling so lonely without him. I spent a lot of time to myself afterwards and it became a natural escape to use art and design. I would sit for hours at our kitchen table drawing and creating. One of my favorite hobbies was making sneakers out of construction paper.
As I was trying to figure out my direction, my purpose, and who I was in life, art continued to be a great part of it. I acquired a BS degree in Graphic Design and Communications from Belmont University, later taught middle school art classes and continued dabbling in fashion. I wanted to honor my late brother, Lord knows I think of him often, so I decided to cherish these memories with art and fashion.
